Grant County Emergency Management is seeking public input and comments on the current county All Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan was created to assist the county, cities, special purpose districts, and the public in planning for disasters before they occur and will offer these entities the ability to apply for federal funding to implement disaster mitigation projects identified in the plan.

The comment period will end August 31, 2011. Comments may be made by printing the appropriate pages and submitting comments in writing to: Sandi Duffey, Grant County Emergency Management, 1525 E. Wheeler Rd., Moses Lake, WA 98837, sduffey@co.grant.wa.us.  Please revisit our site as a survey will be available for those interested.

Hazard mitigation planning is a process designed to identify ways to reduce the loss of life and property damage resulting from natural disasters such as tornados, severe winter storms, severe summer storms, flooding and other events. Public meetings will be held in 2011 to obtain input about the severity and frequency of hazards affecting the area, the location of critical facilities, and potential actions or projects to mitigate losses.

Grant County Emergency Management is coordinating this planning effort for the benefit of the county, participating cities, and special purpose districts. It is the responsibility of these jurisdictions and residents to review the plan. Various sections of the plan explain the planning process, overall risk assessment and public participation.

For more information about this planning effort, please contact Sandi Duffey, 509-762-1462, sduffey@co.grant.wa.us.
