Each year, the Grant
County Sheriff's Office and other local public safety
agencies honor several Grant County youth who are
affected by either a life-threatening medical condition
or a long-term illness. This celebration is called
"Chief for a Day".
At Chief for a Day, each
public safety agency adopts one child and that child is
"empowered" as that agency's chief. Each Chief is
presented with a plaque, uniform and badge of their
agency.
Chief for a Day is
sponsored by the Thomas A. Boruff Foundation, an
Ephrata-based nonprofit organization focused on
assisting special needs children in the U.S. and Mexico.
