In 2009 the Wahluke
School District in Mattawa received a grant from the
U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program
to fund an SRO assigned to the School District. The SRO
is a full time member of the Sheriff's Office who
assists the School District in providing a safe
educational environment for the students and staff. The
School Resource Officer is available to assist with
school security, handle all law enforcement issues,
provide educational programs to the students, and
develop a positive rapport with the parents, students,
and staff of the School District.
The School District has
an agreement with the Sheriff's Office to have one
deputy assigned to the School District.
